The story line is centered around the childhood and young adulthood of Coriolanus Snow and interweaves what life was like in the Capitol and the districts around the time of the 10th Hunger Games, the personal interactions of Snow and his schoolmates, the gain and loss of wealth during the district insurrection, the deeply personal interactions between the tributes and Capitol students and the vindictiveness of the "powers that be". Life was "raw".

This box set is beautiful and the stories are amazing as well. Ms. Gier is a German author, I believe, and has a great way for storytelling. This was the first series I read from her and it's cleverly structured even with all the twists and turns of writing a time-traveling series. Time travel stories can get confusing as one is always trying to keep track of where/when the characters have been and what changes happen in the future/present as a result. Everything falls cleverly into place in this series, but you have to read the whole series to find out everything that happens. What a fun read!
